The PTFE hose is also known as teflon hose. There is no difference among them. Short commercial name of polytetrafluoroethylene (P.T.F.E) is teflon. The hose comes covered with stainless steel wires to protect it from damage during transportation, abrasion, external elements that can damage the hose. Added wire braiding enables the hose pipe to withstand pressure.

Applications of Teflon Hose
Chemical Industry
The chemical processing and manufacturing industries utilise the use of PTFE hoses because of their ability to transport corrosive materials and chemicals. It can withstand harsh environments, which is necessary for chemical processing and manufacturing applications, by adding an added layer of protection. Moreover, the purpose of using PTFE material is to prevent the hoses from eroding or melting when you use it continually with chemicals at high temperatures.
Pharmaceutical Industry
The pharmaceutical or medical industry makes use of PTFE due to its compatibility with medicine-grade applications. In pharma applications where there might be a need for transferring multiple chemicals or associated substances, PTFE is one of the best hose materials. It is non-reactive in nature, hygienic, and easy to clean. As the coefficient of friction is lesser here, it is suitable for applications where pressure drop or low resistance is required.
Automotive Industry
PTFE hoses are used in the automotive industry with thermal stability and high-temperature resistance, especially for engine parts. PTFE hoses provide the automotive industry with leak-proof technologies for increasing the durability and reliability of the vehicle at high speeds. Automobile brands use PTFE hoses because of their resistance to the corrosive chemicals of fuels or lubricants. Some of the PTFE hose applications in this industry include being used in gaskets, O-rings, fuel hose lining, shalt seals, and valve stem seals.
Food and Beverage Industry
In the food and beverage industry, PTFE serves a vital role as it is applied to pans, pots, and various kitchen items to create a non-stick and heat-resistant coating. Moreover, the same process is used for kitchen appliances such as coffee makers, waffle irons, microwaves, and blenders. PTFE is also optimal for electrical insulation, making it best for pipe coatings, seals, and liners. The hoses made out of PTFE material have got food-safe grade and are more durable than any other counterpart available in the market.
Aerospace Industry
In the aerospace industry, the PTFE hoses are installed onto the aircraft because of their specific properties, which include low coefficient of friction, temperature resistance, inflammability, and low dielectric constant. The PTFE hoses in aircraft are used in cable insulation, fuel line, protecting surfaces of doors, and others.

Reasons to Choose Teflon Hose Over Other Materials
Teflon spiral wrap tubing works better than polyethylene, nylon, and other materials in extreme or special circumstances. You might consider PTFE the Cadillac of synthetic polymers. Some of the most common reasons for choosing PTFE over other materials include:
Heat Resistance. Heat Resistance. ture rises in industrial settings, some polymers will not last. They can melt or warp and make messes for maintenance and operating crews. If you expect the heat inside or outside the tube to rise, consider PTFE for its ability to withstand extreme heat and cold.
Corrosion Resistance. Various polymers will break down if they make contact with the wrong type of chemical. Instead of researching the specific corrosion resistance of common polymers such as polyethylene and polyamides, those who routinely work with chemicals prefer a more universal solution. Teflon tubing can withstand highly corrosive environments, making it ideal for a number of different chemical and hazardous environment applications.
PTFE Tubing Will Not Hold On To Liquids Like Some Other Polymers. Think of the way oil and water bubble up on a nonstick pan. Teflon tubing works, in the same way, to improve tube performance and simplify the cleaning process. The right tubing materials provide protection for wires and cables in wet environments and facilitate flow rates when used for fluid transfer.
Types of Teflon Hose
Corrugated Teflon Hose
The corrugated Teflon hose features a corrugated surface and is used in food, pharmaceutical, and chemical applications. It can convey hydraulic fluids, oil, steam, and more.
01
Stainless Steel Teflon Hose
Also known simply as Teflon hose, the stainless steel Teflon hose is braided with stainless steel. This design enhances temperature range compatibility and chemical resistance.
02
Teflon Aircraft Hose
The Teflon aircraft hose is a custom Teflon hose that can be printed in different colors. It is suitable for creating flexible aircraft Teflon lines for hydraulic projects.
03
PTFE Teflon Hose
The PTFE Teflon hose is ideal for chemical, gas, and high-purity applications. PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a fluoropolymer that offers excellent chemical resistance.
04
Convoluted Teflon Hose
The convoluted Teflon hose has a fully convoluted helix PTFE lining, making it suitable for applications requiring flexibility. It typically features a stainless steel wire braid for added strength.
05
Choose Straight Pipe Or Bellows? The main difference is the size and bending radius. Straight pipes are usually only used on apertures of 1 inch or less. For this size, the minimum bend radius for straight pipes is 12 inches, and the minimum bend radius for corrugated pipes is 3 inches.
Conductive Or Non-conductive? Fuel line hoses that carry high-flow gasoline or other low-viscosity hydrocarbons tend to accumulate static charges, which will arc through the PTFE to the braid, forming pinholes in the PTFE. Specifying conductive Teflon will cause electrostatic charges to flow harmlessly to the pipe. Adding nano-scale carbon black to the inner tube can play an anti-static function.
Weaving Material? Type 304 stainless steel is the basic braiding material for most Teflon hoses. It is recommended to use 316 stainless steel for marine hoses. The braid material will also affect the rated pressure of the hose. Certain materials and hoses can withstand a pressure of 5,000 psi.
Internal Or External? Hose exposed to harsh environmental conditions can be equipped with various forms of external protection devices, such as extruded thermoplastic and silicone sleeves, refractory sleeves and various types of metal protective covers. Topa can provide many different protection products.
PTFE unique properties
Excellent chemical resistance. It does not dissolve or swell in any of known solvents. It is resistant to highly aggressive acids and bases. Only very few, very rare substances (fluorine, boiling alkali metals, oxygen bifluoride, chlorine trifluoride) can affect PTFE.- Wide range of thermal resistance. PTFE remains flexible even at the temperature of liquid helium (-269°C).Crystalline melting point of PTFE is +327°C, and at +415°C decomposition of PTFE takes place. Working temperature for hoses made of PTFE usually ranges from -70°C up to +260°C depending on the hose design (pressure and mechanical parameters of PTFE start to decrease when the temperature rises above +130°C).- Resistance to ageing and weather conditions. PTFE is hydrophobic, entirely resistant to ozone, oxygen, light and UV radiation. Samples exposed for several dozen of years to diverse climate conditions have not shown any changes to PTFE properties.- PTFE has a very low coefficient of friction (from 0.02 to 0.2) and a low value of surface energy. Therefore hoses made of PTFE have self-cleaning properties (substances do not stick to hose walls) so the transfer is very hygienic.- Good electrical properties, high resistivity.- Self-extinguishing properties.- Moderate resistance to abrasion.
Other materials similar to PTFE
Hoses can be manufactured not only from PTFE but also from PTFE copolymers. They usually feature high chemical and thermal resistance but other properties are slightly different in comparison to PTFE (better mechanical resistance, better processing qualities):
- FEP (polymer FEP, DuPont),- PFA, MFA (polymer PFA, DuPont),- ETFE (Tefzel, DuPont),- ECTFE (Halar).
Production and construction of PTFE hoses
Because of high viscosity even at temperatures close to thermal decomposition (+415°C), PTFE hoses are manufactured by extruding the compound of lubricant (paraffin oil) and PTFE powder.
Routine Maintenance Of PTFE Hoses
Correctly Match Hose To Application
When selecting the correct hose, consider several aspects to ensure the hose is properly matched to its intended application.
PTFE tubing - This is usually use 100% pure PTFE tubing , its working temperature range is -65 degrees ~ +260 degrees, this type of hose is mainly used in high temperature and low pressure facilities. Because this tubing can hardly withstand too much pressure. If the tube is bent during operation and the working temperature exceeds the standard range, the performance of the hose should be tested or replaced in time.
PTFE hose - This type of hose is made from a 100% virgin PTFE inner tube and braided with single or multiple layers of 304/316 SS steel wire braid or fiber braid. The purpose of this structure is to improve pressure control and maintain flexibility, it’s mainly used in high pressure or ultra-high pressure and high temperature facilities. When checking reinforcement, The bend radius and "bending force" of the hose should be considered. Thicker or multiple layers will increase the pressure rating of the hose, but will likely result in a stiffer, less flexible hose that will not perform well in dynamic applications.
Coating - Coating is the outermost layer (usually silicone, polyurethane, or rubber) that protects the substrate, personnel, and surrounding equipment. Make sure your covering can withstand outside interference, as this is the hose's first line of defense.
End Connections - The performance of a hose is largely dependent on the manufacturer's expertise in assembling the hose. When assembling a hose, it is imperative to follow every step of the assembly process, using professional fully automated crimping equipment to connect the correct end connections to the hose and pressure test it.
Proper Hose Routing
For hose installations in different applications, hoses of appropriate length and specifications are usually used. If the hose is too long, it will take up unnecessary space, rubbing the hose with itself or the machine, and accelerating the wear. Alternatively, the hose may be too short and too tight between two points. In this case, thermal expansion, changes in system pressure, or slight movement of the connection point can cause leakage at the termination. The proper hose length will have enough slack to accommodate movement of the connection point, but not enough to allow friction, interference or kinking. Also try not to over-bend the tube, at which point you should use a fitting at an appropriate angle.
Conditions For Storing Hoses:
Store the hoses in a clean and dry condition at a constant temperature, lay flat but do not stack the hoses too much and prevent UV/sunlight exposure.
Put caps on both ends of the hose to prevent contamination and prevent dust, debris and insects from entering the hose
